Kindergarten  

Kindergarten children will be introduced to letters, sounds, numbers, patterns, etc. It is designed to be a relaxed, but structured environment to allow each child to begin learning the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic at their own pace.  some children will be reading by semester, others by the end of the year.  With time and patience, ALL children will be successful in laying the proper foundation to make them successful learners throughout their lives.  All lessons are correlated to Kansas State Assessment Standards.

 

1st Grade

First Graders will learn basic reading, comprehension, writing, spelling, grammar, and math skills.  All lessons are correlated to Kansas State Assessment Standards.  In math they will count and work with numbers to 100 and learn addition and subtraction facts.  They will begin learning problem-solving strategies and be given opportunities to apply them.  Reading, phonics, and math are strongly stressed.  They will be introduced to basic science and social studies concepts, which are usually integrated with their reading story for the week.

 

2nd Grade

Second Graders will continue developing their reading, comprehension, writing, spelling, grammar, and math skills.  All lessons are correlated to Kansas State Assessment Standards.  Math will include counting and work with numbers to 100+.  Carrying and borrowing in addition and subtraction, as well as some basic multiplication facts will be learned.  Problem-solving strategies will be developed with opportunities to apply them.  Reading, phonics, and math are strongly stressed.  They will receive more formal science and social studies instruction.  Some lessons will be integrated with their reading story for the week, and others will be separate units.

 

3rd Grade

Electives:

Skills Tutor

SkillsTutor is a proven, research-based instructional program designed to improve student achievement for students in grade 3 through adult.  Lessons are interactive and require students to be online while working.

More than 1,000 activities and lessons focus on the core skills commonly found on standardized tests. Topics include reading, writing, language, mathematics, information skills, algebra, science, and workforce preparation.  Lessons are aligned with Kansas state and national academic standards.

Quizzes and Tests quickly identify student's weak skill areas and prescribe appropriate lessons to achieve skill mastery. Pre-tests and post-test reinforce learning, track progress, and help students feel comfortable taking standardized tests in a similar format. The Management System monitors student progress and generates accountability reports.

 

Art

This course is designed to develop art skills, art vocabulary, art appreciation and art history.  The lessons encourage exploration, creativity, and problem solving.  Learning the language of art gives children the ability to communicate and express themselves and their world.  This will be done through hands-on art projects.
