Getting Accepted into ECS

Process |
| Students who seek to attend ECS must work through each of the following steps for admission. Please contact us to receive an application packet. |

1. Submit all required documentation
Be sure to include all information and supporting documentation as requested. The school will not process any application until all required information is received.
Please note: Properly completing and submitting the application paperwork does not guarantee that a student will be accepted into ECS.

2. Review by Admissions Team Upon receipt of all required paperwork, applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Team. The Team will consider past academic performance, school attendance habits, information from personal contacts with the student. Space availability in requested courses will also be considered. Students will be notified of their enrollment status. If accepted, the student will continue with the steps below.

3. Sign Student Compact/Parent Compact Each student and parents of students under the age of 18 will be required to sign a compact. By signing the Student Compact, students make a commitment to complete their work to meet the standards of the ECS curriculum. Students are expected to work continuously and consistently to complete coursework as scheduled. By signing the Parent Compact, parents agree to supervise their student's work, to provide support and encouragement where needed, and to maintain communication with their instructors to ensure that their student is fulfilling his or her responsibilities. They also agree to make sure that school materials are kept in a safe place and returned in good condition.

4. Complete Placement Testing, Finalize Individualized Study Plans, Pick Up Computer and Supplies Students must attend a New Student Check In and Resource Pick Up session to complete placement tests, finalize Individualized Study Plans, pick up a computer (if needed), and pick up books and supplies. This must be completed prior to the first day of classes and will be scheduled during New Student Check In, August 14-22, 2008 at various sites around the state.

5. Complete Orientation Course New students in all grades must participate in and complete an online orientation course. This course is one week in length and MUST be completed by Sept. 5, 2008. Basic computer skills, course navigation, and study skills will all be covered.

6. Complete Two Work Days and Log Into Blackboard Courses As a state requirement, all ECS students must fulfill the following requirements for the two September count days. Participation on these two days is mandatory for all ECS students.
Requirements: 1. On September 15th & 22nd, complete a time log confirming a minimum of six hours of educational activity for that day. This log will include all time spent logged into the ECS Blackboard courses, time spent working on assignments and in communication with instructors. Parents must sign the log to verify its accuracy. 3. Prior to September 20th, log into all courses in Blackboard and begin coursework. |

7. Complete All Required Coursework Students must complete all required coursework, including mandatory proctored* finals in all courses. *Finals for grades 9-12 must be proctored by a Kansas certified instructor to earn credit for the course.

8. Complete and Submit Daily Activity Log A simple log is provided for students to use in keeping track of the hours they spend working on their ECS courses. This is submitted to the ECS office at the end of the each quarter.

9. Participate in MAP Testing All students will participate in a testing session scheduled in various locations around the state in the fall of 2008 and spring of 2009. Testing dates and locations will be announced later, but students must plan to be in attendance. Results of this test provide parents and teachers with valuable feedback on the progress of each child.

10. Participate in Kansas State Assessment Testing All students in grades 3 - 8, and some high school students must participate in Kansas State Assessment testing. Testing sessions will be scheduled in Elkhart, as well as in additional testing sites around the state, in the spring of 2009. Testing dates and locations will be announced later, but students must plan to be in attendance. All testing is mandated by the State of Kansas. |
